On January 17, 1994 at 4:31 AM, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit Northridge, California. Although Q Safety's offices were completely intact due to phenomenal preparation, they found themselves in the midst of a completely different crisis. Customer orders to Q Safety were piling in at the rate of 200 per hour, and Q Safety could not keep up with the demand! Q Safety was using an old HyperCard database system that was so slow and tedious that each Macintosh could only process 12 orders per hour!
| So Q Safety's salespeople were forced to take phone orders by hand, on thousands of pieces of paper, which were quickly stacking up all over the office. Tom Rundberg, president of Q Safety, knew that he needed a solution — and FAST.
Tom was smart enough to contact ScottWorld, who immediately started programming a complete retail ordering system using FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Server. This new retail ordering system was so blazing fast that Q Safety completely caught up on all of their backlogged orders in just a few weeks, and they were able to keep up with the flood of incoming phone calls from that point forward! |

The new retail ordering system was designed to handle every telephone order, every walk-in order, and every catalog request with total speed, complete efficiency, and absolute user-friendliness. The database system needed to be so easy to use that Tom could hire dozens of temporary workers, place them in front of computers, and have them master the entire program within 20 minutes. Thanks to ScottWorld, the mission was accomplished in record time!
